In 1943, a clinical trial of the University of Michigan showed that inactivated influenza vaccine was approximately 70% effective and protection was correlated with HAI antibodies. Since then, estimates of effectiveness first rose to 90% and have now plummeted. At this seminar, Arnold S Monto will examine how current, more sober, observations helped us in understanding ways vaccines might be improved upon in to the future.

Arnold S. Monto is the Thomas Francis Jr. Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology.
