About Professor Antje Blumenthal

Antje Blumenthal is an ARC Future Fellow and leads the Infection & Inflammation Group at the Frazer Institute, University of Queensland. She graduated with a major in Microbiology from the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, Germany, pursued her doctoral research in Immunology at the Leibniz Research Center for Medicine and Biosciences Borstel, Germany, and expanded her training in immunology and microbiology during postdoctoral work at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, USA. Professor Blumenthal has been recognised for her contributions to the scientific community through leadership roles within the University and professional societies. She is a Fellow of the Australian Society for Microbiology and twice elected member of the national council of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology. Professor Blumenthal is an enthusiastic undergraduate teacher and research student advisor, and takes a proactive role in advancing the careers of her colleagues. Her leadership in developing and implementing initiatives that promote equity, diversity and inclusion in science have gained her institutional and national recognition. Leveraging her expertise in microbiology and immunology, Professor Blumenthal’s goal is to improve treatment options for severe bacterial infections, with a specific focus on tuberculosis and sepsis. The Blumenthal lab uses cutting-edge technologies in in vivo and in vitro model systems, and fosters cross-disciplinary collaborations across academia, clinical research teams and industry partners.
