Visiting guest speaker Nelson L Michael from Walter Reed Army Institute of Research will speak at the final Doherty Institute Seminar for 2017. Michael's presentation, Vaccines for the Prevention of HIV-1 Acquistion and Viral Control, will describe the current trajectories of of major HIV preventive vaccine research and development efforts including those based on the only HIV vaccine trial to demonstrate efficacy, the RV 144 trial in Thailand, as well as newer approaches that could lead to a universal HIV vaccine. He will then describe how these efforts, combined with parallel programs studying the earliest events in HIV host-pathogen interactions, have combined to develop novel HIV disease moderating HIV therapeutic approaches.
