Congratulations to three Doherty Institute finalists in the Premier’s Awards

Since 1995, the Premier's Award has been awarded annually to recognise the exceptional contributions made by early career health and medical researchers in their PhD studies.

This year, we’re proud to announce that three of the ten shortlisted finalists are from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, The University of Melbourne at the Doherty Institute.

Congratulations:

  • Dr  Nicholas Gherardin (Godfrey Laboratory): Understanding immune cells that respond to vitamins: How they work, and how we can use them to fight cancer
  • Dr Hui-Fern Koay (Godfrey Laboratory): How our Mucosal Associated Invariant T (MAIT) cells develop
  • Dr Jason Kwong (Howden Laboratory): Whole-genome sequencing to enhance the public health control of infectious diseases in Australia

The 24th Victorian Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research will be presented on 26 March 2018 at Federation Square. We wish Nicholas, Fern and Jason every success in the final of this prestigious award.

See the Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research page for details of the finalists from each of the four categories: Public Health Researcher, Basic Science Researcher, Clinical Researcher and Health Services Researcher.

The Premiers Award is a joint initiative of the Victorian Government and the Australian Society for Medical Research.
