JOY FM’s Dean Beck awarded inaugural 2017 HIV Cure Community Scholarship
The HIV Cure Community Partnership (HCCP) is pleased to announce well known radio personality Dean Beck as the winner of its 2017 HIV Cure Community Scholarship.
Director of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity and HCCP chair, Professor Sharon Lewin, said, “The Australian response to HIV has been characterised by a strong, effective and enduring partnership between community, clinicians and researchers.
"The challenge and complexity of finding a cure for HIV is an area where we need community partnership more than ever. Dean is an outstanding communicator and passionate advocate for people living with HIV. I am delighted he is the inaugural recipient of this excellent initiative.”
Mr Beck said, “I am truly honoured to have been awarded the inaugural HIV Cure Community Scholarship.
"Having attended AIDS 2014 and ASHM in 2016, I have seen how vitally important these forums are for sharing knowledge and exchanging ideas. I hope to distil the science and deliver the facts as they impact those living with and affect by HIV, especially at this pivotal time where an end to HIV and possible cure are in sight."
With increasing research focus on HIV cure, ensuring that community understanding develops along with the progress in science is critical. The scholarship will support Mr Beck to attend the 2017 Australasian HIV & AIDS Conference to be held in Canberra next month and to contribute content to www.hivcure.com.au
