Professor Sharon Lewin reappointed to the NHMRC Council
Doherty Institute Director, Professor Sharon Lewin has been reappointed to the Council of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) as Chair of the Health Translation Advisory Committee for another three-year term.
The Council supports the NHMRC’s critical national role in shaping and supporting research to address the current and future health issues in Australia.
Some of Australia’s leading female health and medical researchers and advocates have joined Professor Lewin on the Council, including Professors Ingrid Scheffer, Ingrid Winship and Sandra Eades, all from the University of Melbourne.
“This is an exciting and important time for the NHMRC and translational research with dramatic changes in the NHMRC funding model and new opportunities for health translation with the MRFF. I am honored to be on the council and leading the Health Translation Advisory Committee at such an important time” Professor Lewin said.
Federal Health Minister, the Hon Greg Hunt MP said the strong leadership of women in the sector was recognised with two thirds of appointees being female.
“The diverse membership has an impressive range of expertise and experience to call on to provide the best possible advice to Chief Executive Officer, Professor Anne Kelso AO,” Mr Hunt said.
In addition to the Chief Health and Medical Officers of each State and Territory, the new Council is:
