Statement on the Australian Centre for Disease Control
The Doherty Institute welcomes and strongly supports the allocation of $91.1 million over two years from the Australian Government as part of the 2023-24 Budget to commence the establishment of the Australian Centre for Disease Control. While Australia’s overall response to COVID-19 was world-leading in many respects – such as science-based policy and low mortality rates – there is a powerful justification for improved coordination and functionality at a national level. We commend that data sharing across the nation will be explored as a first priority, and further consultation on the design of the Centre. We look forward to working with the Australian Government and states and territories on this exciting initiative for Australia.
