About the research study
In patients with HIV on antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV hides in immune cells called CD4+ T cells which is why ART is not curative. HIV hides most efficiently in the gut because of local inflammation that impairs the immune response. Vitamin D reduces inflammation in the gut and may increase the ability of the immune system to recognise and eliminate infected cells. In this study participants will receive either high dose vitamin D or an inactive pill for 6 months and will have blood tests 3 monthly for 9 months. They will remain on your HIV treatment throughout.
