Dr Damien Brown is a public health registrar, currently working with Professor Jodie McVernon’s Epidemiology group on modelling for COVID-19.

Damien’s background is in emergency medicine, rural general practice and anaesthetics, having spent much of the past decade as a field doctor and health advisor with Medecins Sans Frontieres, and with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in remote Aboriginal Australian communities. He holds a Masters of International Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Diploma of Tropical Medicine from the Gorgas School (Peru).  

  • Key Achievements
    • Damien has implemented health worker training programs in Thailand, Angola, South Sudan and several other resource limited contexts. He worked as the clinical lead in developing operational guidelines for field hospitals with MSF, and has been medical team leader in several field projects. A strong believer in the importance of clear, widely accessible health communication, Damien has written extensively about the successes and challenges of medicine in difficult contexts for several media outlets.
