Dr Lauren Carrington obtained her PhD in 2010 in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Melbourne under Professor Ary Hoffmann before completing a postdoctoral with Professor Thomas Scott at the University of California Davis in the USA, studying environmental influences on dengue virus infection in Aedes aegypti. Lauren currently works with Professor Cameron Simmons, based full-time at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Lauren investigates dengue virus transmission dynamics, assessing the susceptibility of wild type Aedes mosquitoes – and those infected with the intracellular bacterium Wolbachia – to dengue virus infections when challenged with patient-derived viremic blood meals.
