Associate Professor Janine Trevillyan is the Head of Clinical Virology and HIV services and Deputy Director of Infectious Diseases at Austin Health. She is an infectious diseases physician and clinical researcher whose work focuses on understanding and preventing the long-term complications of viral infections, in particular of HIV, along with the side effects and effectiveness of emerging vaccines. She completed her clinical training at the Alfred and Austin Hospitals (2011) and a PhD through Monash University in 2015. She then went on to a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, Clinical AIDS Research and Education Centre.

Associate Professor Janine Trevillyan was the lead of the Northeast COVID Vaccination program, a multi-site, multimillion-dollar program that was the largest COVID vaccination service in the state (providing over 1.5 million doses).
She is a translational clinical researcher with over $6.5 million in funding support and has been awarded multiple national and international researcher prizes, and the 2022 Inspirational Women’s Leadership Award. She has supervised a number of clinical trainees and research students through their specialist training and on to successful clinical and research careers.

Lewin Group
The focus of the Lewin group is to understand why HIV infection persists on antiretroviral therapy and to develop new strategies to eliminate latency. The lab also researches factors that drive liver disease in HIV-hepatitis B virus co-infection. The lab is also actively involved in COVID in relation to pathogenesis, the use of primary tissue models, and developing therapeutics using gene editing strategies.
