Wen Shi is an early career researcher who has an avid interest in humoral immunity against viral infections. He completed his PhD on HIV cure strategies, examining the utility of antibody Fc effector functions against latent HIV infection. He has recently pivoted to work on COVID-19, with a focus on neutralizing antibody responses elicited by vaccination and infection and the development of monoclonal antibody therapeutics against coronavirus infections.

  • Key Achievements
    • Wen Shi is the inaugural recipient of the Melbourne Postdoctoral Fellowship (only one awarded per University of Melbourne Faculty), allowing him to lead a research program on future proofing human populations against COVID-19. His recent research on SARS-CoV-2 immunity has led to high impact publications in Immunity, Nature Microbiology, Nature Communications, Nature Medicine and Cell Reports. He is also regularly invited to present at national conferences and has won numerous travel awards to present at international conferences.

Stephen’s group studies immunity to HIV, influenza and SARS-CoV-2. They are analysing a variety of vaccine strategies, including nanoparticle-based vaccines. They are studying a series of immune responses to gain better insights into protective immunity to important viral pathogens. They are developing monoclonal antibody therapies for HIV, influenza and SARS-CoV-2 to improve the treatment of these infections. The Kent group works very closely with Dr Amy Chung’s laboratory at the Doherty Institute.
