Professor Fazakerley studied Botany and Zoology for his BSc (Hons) and has an MBA and a PhD. He is a Fellow of the UK Royal College of Pathologists and the Royal Society of Biology. His career has included positions at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in London, the Department of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla California, the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge and The Royal School of Veterinary Studies and The Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh where he was Chair of Virology in the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine. In his most recent post, before moving to Melbourne, he was Director of the UK National Virology Institute, The Pirbright Institute.
